Athletes: Stop using 'try' or 'trying'

STOP USING THE WORD TRY OR TRYING.

I do not want to hear EVER sentences like these again:

  • I am trying to fit in my run training

  • I am trying to achieve my goals

  • I’m trying to live my best self

  • I’m trying to do my morning and evening routine

  • I’m trying not to eat chocolate

  • I’m trying to not have target practice

  • I’m trying to go for goal when playing matches

  • I’m trying to push harder in my training sessions

  • I’m going to try and lift heavier next time

The problem with these sentences:

❌ Try or trying suggests that what you’re doing is hard, challenging and is going to be a struggle

❌ Try or trying implies that you’re not going to achieve your goal

❌ Try or trying suggests it’s going to be hard and you’ll fail, you’re stacking the odds to not succeed in achieving your goal, task, training session or living your best self.

So STOP trying.

Start DOING, BEING, PROGRESSING and using all of the other powerful, productive and positive words out there to stack the odds in your favour of succeeding in the exact way you’d love to:

  • I will fit in my training today because I want to and I have a great time window

  • Every day I’m becoming a better and better athlete

  • I am working towards and on track to achieving my goals

  • With every training session, I’m becoming a faster and faster swimmer

  • I’m going to go for goal with confidence

  • I will be successful in doing my daily morning and evening routines

  • I am doing so well in following my nutrition plan

Every time you use the word ‘try’ or ‘trying’ swap it out for a more powerfully positive statement and notice how It positively transforms how you feel about completing the task at hand - and the outcome.

Share with us below what you’re going to stop trying to do and what you’re going to start doing brilliantly!
